Busy-ness is the trend these days. People keep taking on more and more, forgetting to say no, I can’t, or I won’t and then we hear:
“I’m SO busy at work!”
“How do you have time to do that? I’m too busy to read/watch TV/exercise/do anything fun.”
“I can’t get monthly massages I have too much to DO!”
Wow! Why are we proud of this? When did we get this way? What on earth are we so busy doing?
Too much “busy” could be making you tired, sick, and probably cranky.
When I talk to clients, friends or family that are this busy I think – what happened to the simple life? Sitting down with friends? But then I think about my personal schedule and think when do I really relax? When do I find time to wind down and shut down? I doesn’t happen very much!
“Relaxation” is a word we hear often, but don’t always know what it means. I’m guilty of this, too. So here, I’ve compiled some options for us.
re·lax verb \ri-ˈlaks\
- the state of being free from tension or anxiety.
- a way to rest and enjoy yourself
- recreation or rest, especially after a period of work.
- the loss of tension in a part of the body, especially in a muscle when it ceases to contract.
- something that you do to stop feeling nervous, worried, etc.
Wow. Don’t those sound nice?
Now you’re thinking…great – this sounds appealing but HOW do I get that?
Make time for that!
You have a schedule. Write in special time for a hobby, a nap, massage, your favorite show, a weekend getaway, a new class, ANY thing you enjoy can be relaxing.
I have found that a Sunday quick nap helps me feel like I’m creating a sense of balance. It’s only a 20 minute quick power nap, but if I don’t “schedule” it. It doesn’t happen.
The same thing with getting regular massages – if you don’t schedule them and find time to make them happen, you won’t call until it’s too late. By then, your hamstrings are so tight that you can’t walk, your head is ready to explore because your muscles are so tight they are fighting against each other – don’t wait!
